Lead: Andy Saunders - Project Manager GKD Technik
Working with GKD Technik, an engineering company that designs and manufacturers movement limiting systems for the road rail and construction industry, Andy delivered a significant project and managed change.
Minimising down time and ensuring operational availability to keep maintenance and upgrade works on schedule.
The SpaceGuard upgrade programme was funded by Network Rail and forms part of their effort to deliver safe adjacent line opening works on their network. The project involved working with the owners of road rail vehicles, Network Rail representatives and the vehicle acceptance body to upgrade 35 road rail machines fit complex movement limiting devices that will enable a road rail vehicle to operate safely on the rail network with whilst minimising down time and ensuring operational availability to keep maintenance and upgrade works on schedule.
There were a considerable number of challenges, including minimising vehicle downtime, ensuring systems were fitted and signed off within compliance criteria, managing software changes to the system to meet the requirements of the machines and completing the whole project within the financial budget timeline of 12 months.
Working with major machine operators including Balfour Beatty, Quattro, TXM and others, coordinated the arrival of machines at the converters facility, arranged to for technology to be available and worked with converter and owners to ensure the machines were completed, complaint and ready for testing in preparation of being available to work on the rail infrastructure.
This project was a success, being completed in time and within budget.
